Medical coatings
Cementless implanted artificial joints are fixed primarily in an economical and accurately fitting in the bone. As anchors in the wall, the implants are tensed in the bone. This mechanical adhesion loose quickly the strength and must be replaced by a permanent and long-term stable solid growth of bone cells (osseointegration).
Bone cells can be anchored directly on biocompatible materials, if the surface structure is accordingly. Vacuum plasma sprayed coatings with pure titanium have a ideal rough surface with enough space for the bone cells for the ingrowht process. The natural oxide film on the Ti layer prevents the dreaded metal ion release after implantation.
The osseointegration of the implant can be accelerated by an additional hydroxyapatite (HA) coating on the titanium layer. HA is a natural constituent of bone tissue. The metallic implant is now covered with a bioidentical stealth. The ingrowth process time of the HA-coated prosthesis is now the same healing process as a bone fracture.
Medicoat provides to the prosthesis manufacturers optimized Ti and HA coatings that meet all ISO standards and ASTM requirements. The coating production, produced in our one manufactured systems takes place under the strict quality standards according to ISO 13485.
